MEMPHIS, Tennessee, July 31, 2006 - Peabody Place Museum, 119 South Main Street, will host a Chinese calligraphy and painting workshop conducted by Samuel Man starting in September. The cost for the workshop will be $60 for pre-registrants or $20 to attend a single class.

Man, a local artist who has presented and demonstrated Chinese painting and calligraphy in Memphis since 1980, teaches privately at the Man Art Studio. His work will be on display at the Museum September through November.

The Peabody Place Museum workshop will consist of four two-hour classes targeted to adults 18 and over. Topics for the classes, to be held September 16, 23, 30 and October 7, will include Chinese calligraphy, Chinese landscape painting, the art of bamboo and Chinese flowers. Each lecture will conclude with a demonstration and an opportunity for hands-on participation from attendees.

Classes will be held in the Dynasty Room inside the Museum from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

An opening reception will kick off the workshop with refreshments, family activities, and an unveiling of Man’s artwork on September 9 at 11:30 a.m. The family activities are free with Museum admission.
